Peaness @ Bodega, Live Review

Indie-pop trio Peaness graced the stage of Nottingham’s infamous Bodega on Tuesday night, delivering a sparkling performance filled with charisma and sweet melodies. Olivia Hannant reviews.

The fruity tunes of Nottingham’s own Citrus supported, projecting vibrance and energetic indie-rock upon the crowd. The absence of their drummer Isaac was deemed not an issue, as they excelled in producing a lively set. I have seen these guys a few times and they always deliver catchy guitar riffs, and if you’re lucky, you might catch George playing his guitar behind his head with a chaotic air. The band debuted their new song, and balanced crowd participation with a chatty and favourable set.

"for anyone wanting joyous melodies and fun poppy tunes - you’ll enjoy their debut album"

Peaness were the main act of the night, mirroring the likes of Beach Bunny and Muna. The group exerted shiny dream pop that reflected off of the Bodega disco ball. With possibly one of my favourite band names, Peaness played a series of beachy pop songs with harmonious melodies and enticing vocals.

My highlights of the set were the softly sung Take A Trip with vivid imagery and almost lullaby-like synths; this was the perfect opener and allowed them to increase the energy as the set continued. Followed up by the punchy How I'm Feeling and Doing Fine, and for anyone wanting joyous melodies and fun poppy tunes - you’ll enjoy their debut album.

The audience consisted mainly of members of the older demographic, which I did find slightly odd. I thought that these guys would really appeal to a teenage audience, as they’re easily accessible and just generally enjoyable for easy listening. Even when they had exited the stage, the band hung around to talk to the crowd and exerted an aura of ease and familiarity.

An enjoyable show and listening experience overall, and in the future I can see these guys having a large TikTok following and extending their listeners to a younger demographic; so Peaness are definitely ones to keep an eye on.
