Earlier this week The Mic managed to catch up with frontman of Scouse up and coming band TV ME Thomas McConnell, and here’s what he had to say:
(1) How did TV ME form? – Through 2016 I was as a solo act called Tom Low and I had a backing band of musicians which included my girlfriend Frankie and 2 musicians she’d introduced me to. Through the latter half of the year I’d written a huge batch of new music that I didn’t think suited Tom Low and wanted to house it all in a new project. I needed a new way of performing it so that’s when me, Frankie and Adam from the backing band formed TV ME…
(2) Is there a story behind the band’s name? – While thinking of a name for the new project a friend suggested a ridiculous name that we wont reveal – it was swiftly declined. However, it’s acronym was TV ME and when we pronounced it “TV Me” we thought it worked well. We think it’s relevant to todays’ 15 minutes of fame / social media culture. Everyone has their own little channel where they try to mould how they are perceived by the outside world…
(3) Who would you say have been your biggest influences as a band? – My favourite songwriters influence the composition and writing but the overall vibe and sound is influenced by our childhoods and creative processes…
(4) Would you say you prefer being in the studio recording new material or playing live shows – Definitely prefer recording.
(5) What was the first music festival you went to – as a fan or indeed as a band? – I’ve not ventured to many as a fan but we played Green Man festival in the Welsh hills as Tom Low and that was great – would love to go back there again.
(6) Do you have a favourite venue/city to play live? (They don’t have to be the same!) – Leaf in Liverpool always works for us but I’d love to play in Glasgow again. I’ve played there a number of times over the years and it’s always great.
(7) If you had to only play festivals or headline sets for the rest of your career, which would you prefer? – Headline sets probably. Festivals are usually just in summer but you could do those all year round…
(8) Do you have a favourite song to play live? – “GoGo” is our set opener. It’s an immediate sort of song which is fun to do…
(9) What are your ambitions as a band for the future? – To create original and imaginative music, never sound boring and hopefully attract more ears as we do it!

(10) If you could have written one song in history yourself, what would you have preferred it to be?
“Coming Up” by Paul McCartney…
