Rosegarden Funeral Party- Doorway Ghost

Sami de Jong takes a quick look at Rosegarden Funeral Party's new single...

Doorway Ghost is the second track by Dallas post-punk band Rosegarden Funeral Party since their 2021 album In the Wake of Fire, and—despite an output of extraordinarily consistent quality over the last six years—it may be among their very best singles. Although marketed as the beginning of their 'new era', it boasts all the familiar characteristics of the band’s stellar discography: catchy and evocative lyricism, composition reminiscent of a goth-tinted Florence and the Machine, and Leah Lane’s powerful Siouxsie Sioux and Morrissey-inspired vocals. Moreover, lending her talents to this track is Alyssa Gallagher of Trigger Discipline, who brings new atmosphere with her melancholic saxophone solos—an atmosphere that feels more than welcome in a song about 'letting go and accepting things you cannot change'. The band’s official website claims that Rosegarden Funeral Party 'takes influence from life’s tragedies and spins chaos into beauty', and that remains apparent in all of their latest work. Owing not only to Lane’s singing/songwriting, but also in large part to her extremely confident guitar and synth work, Rosegarden Funeral Party continue to impress with their glamorous reinvention of traditional goth-rock.
