Television Screams - Uncomfortably Numb

Following two viral and gut-busting singles, Television Screams return with a promising new tune, as described by Sam Christelow.

London’s self-styled “RIOT GHOUL” band Television Screams released their latest single Uncomfortably Numb on October 21st. Their third single follows 2020's viral hit Break Your Legs and Don’t Ghost Me, released in 2021. The band’s horror punk and riot grrrl influences shine through on both tracks and are refined even further on their latest.

Uncomfortably Numb is two minutes and forty-one seconds of pure punk energy. Fuzzy, sludgey guitars fill the wall of sound intro before it builds into a technically impressive ramp-up of the tempo. This is how a good intro should be written. It builds tension and leaves the listener excited for what is to come next. It also sounds fantastic; good (read: loud) speakers recommended!

Television Screams easily slip into a classic punk style for the rest of the song with thrashing power chords and vocals shouted out at the top of their lungs. The recording alone is enough to mentally transport me to a D.I.Y punk show, rubbing elbows with a sea of tartan and cartilage piercings. This is an easy inclusion on any high energy playlist, whether that’s for pumping yourself up for a two hour lecture or simply getting out of bed in the morning.

Uncomfortably Numb heralds the start of an exciting era for Television Screams, as they gear up for a show supporting Gen & The Degenerates in London on 17th November. They are moving from strength to strength and are looking to explode into the scene in a big way in the coming months.

“Why’d you get to feel joy and I don’t?” asks singer Mort Drew near the end of the song. Big mood.
