The Magic Gang @ Rescue Rooms

On Tuesday night Brighton lads The Magic Gang payed a visit to Rescue Rooms as part of their headline tour. Greeted encouragingly by a young crowd the band played a 45 minute set full of their recent tracks and the occasional debut.

Having only released 3 EPs, the band crafted a set list that successfully overlapped tracks with room for introducing new songs. The crowd’s energy grew from strength to strength, with continuous pulsing mosh pits that seemed to climax during hits such as How Can I Compete and All This Way. After numerous tours supporting the likes of Wolf Alice and Swim Deep the four-piece are becoming seasoned pros and a household name on the rising indie scene.

Their sound varies from song to song producing poppy indie sounds accompanied with sweet harmonies. Throughout the set and their trio of EPs you can hear the band’s sound adapting and changing as they experiment both rhythmically and lyrically, exploring different sounds before finding their niche. But the feel-good, exuberant sound remains, allowing the listener to dream of sunny days.

The Magic Gang certainly have a lot of potential, they’re a band that certainly enjoy the music they play which is reflected in their joyous stage presence. Hopefully a debut album is on the horizon, but in the mean time they’re certainly not an act to be missed during the festival season.
