Despite what you might first think – this preview is not for an event which exists as a tribute to the musical works of grime collective Boy Better Know. Rather, BBK is a rock and pop festival in the picturesque location on the slopes of Kobetamendi Mountain in Bilbao. Often overlooked in the UK due to the mass of media coverage which is credited to Benicassim Festival instead, BBK is a huge festival in its own right, which promises massive shows to all who may attend – and all at a far more reasonable price than many UK festivals!
Headliners this year can be best described as varied – with Depeche Mode, The Killers and Die Antwoord all already confirmed as bringing their own style to the Main Stage – Die Antwoord in particular as unique a music act as you are likely to ever see live! Elsewhere, indie-rock favourites Two Door Cinema Club, Circa Waves, Sundara Karma and The 1975 all feature across the three-day festival, which strangely runs from Thursday-Saturday as opposed to the usual Friday-Sunday we are used to. US rockers Cage The Elephant will also make an appearance, while on the ‘Basoa’ Stage (meaning ‘Forest’) I am personally very intrigued as to the style which ‘DJ Tennis’ will bring to the stage.
All in all, BBK Live promises to be quite the event, with possibly comfortably better weather than you could expect here in England! With a three day pass costing just under £100, and with the lineup as seen above as good as it is, it certainly is one to consider taking in this festival season. Keep your eyes on The Mic’s official website for more updates on this and indeed many more upcoming festivals as the summer gets properly started and festival season begins!
