Last Saturday, British DJ, radio presenter, and producer ‘Danny Howard’ brought his vigour and energy to Nottingham’s ‘Stealth’. For two hours, the self-proclaimed ‘musical mecca’ would host one of the world’s most respected dance broadcasters and tastemakers. Aside from his reputation of putting on upbeat, ‘full-on club vibe’ DJ sets, Howard has also helped unearth talents such as ‘Martin Garrix’ and ‘Rudimental’, as well as releasing tracks for ‘Solardo’. As well as making waves on the radio, his ear for underground talent has certainly enhanced his reputation as one of the biggest figures on British electronic music.
Arriving half an hour before he was set to begin, it didn’t take long to see that Stealth was rammed with clubbers eager for Danny’s set to begin. Despite being as busy as I’d ever seen Stealth, it didn’t take long to squeeze my way to the front – just in time for the start of Danny’s set. As promised, it was a set brimming with back to back bangers: Fatboy Slim’s ‘Praise You’ perhaps the biggest crowd pleaser.
For the entirety of the set, Howard kept the good vibes flowing, dropping huge tracks left right and centre. Wildchild’s ‘The Renegade’, or Patrick Topping’s anthemic ‘Be Sharp Say Nowt’ both made an appearance to a great reception from the Stealth audience. Whilst mixing, Howard also took time to address the dancefloor and engage with the fans up close to his decks. While he was clearly a natural at laying down club anthems with ease, his charm and energy that has made him one of Radio 1’s biggest radio personalities shone through. Frequently caught grinning at those around him, it’s clear that Danny enjoyed being back out on tour just as much as his fans.
With an ear for new talent and a love for the all-time greats, Danny Howard has become one of Britain’s most treasured DJ’s. Continuing to deliver sets as enjoyable as he did on Saturday will surely do no harm in maintaining this.
