This Saturday Jonathan Hague is hugely excited to be attending Live at Leeds In The City; a multi-venue day festival featuring many of the best indie artists in the UK! The line-up is stacked full of artists he can’t wait to see, and this article will detail the artists to look out for at this year’s Live at Leeds.
1. Palace
Showcasing a unique brand of atmospheric rock, Palace’s hour and 15-minute afternoon set at the O2 Academy is certainly not one to miss. Expect shimmering guitar lines, beautiful vocals and stunning imagery as the London-based band play songs from their recent album Shoals as well as older hits such as Live Well and Bitter.
Most anticipated song: Shame On You
For Fans of: Far Caspian, Foals
2. Sundara Karma
One of this year’s headline acts, Sundara Karma are sure to delight the crowd with their back catalogue of indie hits. Whilst songs from the American pop-rock inspired latest EP Kill Me may not go down so well, there’ll be plenty of songs from their two well-received albums Youth Is Only Ever Fun In Retrospect and Ulfilas Alphabet to please the indie crowd.
Most anticipated song: Olympia
For Fans of: Bombay Bicycle Club, Circa Waves
3. Thomas Headon
Thomas Headon’s infectious brand of catchy indie-pop is always delivered in an energetic and fun performance. His tea-time slot will be sure to create a good atmosphere at Leeds Beckett Student Union - and may have a Taylor Swift cover thrown in too!
Most anticipated song: How Do I Know?
For Fans of: Alfie Templeman, Dayglow
4. The Native
Plymouth based indie-rock band The Native are my pick of the rising bands in the lower part of this year’s line-up. Smooth vocals tie in beautifully with guitar harmonies to create a sentimental atmosphere. Whilst I’m not such a big fan of their latest EP Looking Back, they’re definitely one to look out for – I wouldn’t be surprised to see them higher on the line-up in a few years time!
Most anticipated song: Time
For Fans of: Sea Girls, The Kooks
5. White Lies
The big decision of this year’s Live at Leeds festival is whether to see Pale Waves headline the O2 Academy or White Lies close out Leeds Beckett Student Union. Pale Waves do start half-an-hour earlier, so my plan is to see the start of indie-pop heroes Pale Waves, then rush to catch the powerful rock of White Lies. With their debut album released in 2009, White Lies are one of the most established acts on this year’s line-up, and I’m confident that they will use their experience to deliver an unforgettable live performance.
Most anticipated song: Death
For Fans of: Editors, Interpol
I’m really looking forward to experiencing Live at Leeds for the first time, attending the best music venues that Leeds has to offer and seeing so many great artists. Make sure to read my review to hear how I got on!
