Supporting the rock staple of Miles Kane, Brooke Combe commanded her support set at Rock City, demonstrating she’s more than capable of being a success. James Pusey reviews.
The singer from Edinburgh displayed a real confidence as she introduced singles such as Impress You and Miss Me Now to the growing audience. With a simple arrangement of Combe on vocals and lead guitar, a rhythm guitarist, bassist and drummer, the venue was engulfed in her music. Powerful vocals, onstage dance moves, and a Scottish charm, Brooke Combe easily gripped those watching.
In the age of social media, Combe’s following grew off her covers of songs from her bedroom, and seeing one of said covers make it into her live set is a delight
The highlight of the show was her cover of the Arctic Monkeys' Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High, which she made her own. In the age of social media, Combe’s following grew off her covers of songs from her bedroom, and seeing one of said covers make it into her live set is a delight. With the Rock City audience growing through the set, each and every member showed support for an act who is destined for greater things.
Combe’s support set was more than enough to demonstrate what she is capable of. Touring with Miles Kane should prove fruitful for the new artist, and I for one can’t wait for her to headline Rock City in the near future.
