Olivia Hannant writes her views on the upcoming impressive stages of Victoria Park. With women and alternativity at its forefront, this All Points East Festival is certainly a top-runner for UK festivals this year.
With indie-rock trailblazers The Strokes and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs headlining the first Friday, I have high hopes for All Points East Festival this year, considering the tough act to follow of the likes of Tame Impala, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and The Smile from the previous year. The likes of Stormzy, Haim and Jungle have risen to the challenge, following the release of the noughties rock documentary film Meet Me in the Bathroom, it only feels apt for the Strokes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs to headline and I cannot express my excitement to hear Julian Casablancas sing Ode to the Mets and experience the Yeah Yeah Yeahs for the first time with the now background knowledge of frontwoman Karen O’s struggles throughout her career.
Followed up by the likes of Black Midi, Amyl and the Sniffers and Julie, it is sure going to be a day filled with buzz and post-punk goodness. Seeing Black Midi live is an experience I would encourage any lover of some chaos and spontaneity to pursue with insane energy emitting from both the band and the crowd. I cannot wait to see what they have in store. Recently discovered Julie is also much anticipated for me as well as Amyl and the sniffers, a great selection of badass women! Furthermore, I feel as if Stormzy speaks for himself and I look forward to seeing who else he curates to play alongside himself.
The likes of Haim and Confidence Man I think are great choices for the Bank Holiday Monday, I look forward to Confidence Man’s set stylistically and to seeing some of their cool dancing. As much as I hate to admit it I am really looking forward to Lizzy McAlpine as well as I love a sad anthem. I don’t think there’s any universe that you couldn’t agree Jungle was a solid Saturday headliner, I will be dancing and it will be a great time. Unfortunately, I’m not really familiar with anyone else on Saturday but am excited to hopefully discover some new artists. Overall, the line-up is looking delightful and there’s still more to be announced so my fingers are crossed it only gets better!
