Jake Longhurst previews the metal-fest giant, ArcTanGent, and the growing demand for the festival to have another day full of stage-ripping artists and bands.
ArcTanGent’s Instagram bio describes the festival as "delivering line-ups you won’t find anywhere on Earth". This is a very bold claim, and yet it’s absolutely true. This latest edition is merely another piece of evidence as such, with Converge and Heilung announced to headline and Deafheaven and Igorr acting as sub-headliners on the final day (still no headliner announced there yet!).
The organisers bring a wonderful blend of all sorts of genres, from more conventional things like metalcore and death metal to the far out ends of instrumental progressive noise, and whatever else may be on their radar. Having a list of artists that contains Birds In Row, Enslaved, Sikth, The Callous Daoboys, ‘68 and so many more is frankly preposterous and deserves nothing less than me buying a ticket and going for the entire duration of the festival. With this year being (I believe) only the second that they’ve had the extra day on a Wednesday too, they’ve also brought a formidable set of acts on for that, with Scalping, Conjurer, Pupil Slicer and more making an appearance. I know that I’m going to be getting down and dirty in many a moshpit across the weekend, and if you have even a passing interest in the best and brightest in the world of metal and its surrounding genres then I’d suggest you do too.
