Described by the Guardian as 'a true getaway from modern capitalism', Bearded Theory marries the energy of a festival whilst simultaneously offering a relaxing and leisurely atmosphere. Jodie Averis gives her thoughts in the preview leading up to the eagerly-anticipated weekend in May.
Hosted in Catton Park in Derbyshire and buried deep in the dreamy National Forest, Bearded Theory contains multitudes: think an eclectic line-up of musical artists spanning across genres such as punk to synthpop; real cask ale pubs to take a breath and grab a pint; and even a unique Earth Area where festival-goers can engage in some craft making. This family-friendly festival certainly promises a weekend of good music, good beer and of course, good energy.
The line-up is varied, with enough to please any music lover. Acts include post-punk rockers Interpol, electro-synthpop icon Gary Numan, indie dreamboats Alvvays, as well as many more talents such as psychedelia-meets-electro-rock Henge, folk-punk songwriter Beans on Toast, and Bobby Gillespie's Primal Scream, who simply do not need an introduction. Such variety permits festival-goers to explore the wide range of exceptional and diverse talent, possibly finding a new favourite artist or genre.
All of these factors, including the fact that Bearded Theory even has its' own little traditions (read: Sunday morning fancy dress competition being one of them), make this festival eccentric, remarkable and certainly one to consider. See you in the fields!
