Tristan tells us exactly why the day fest CruCast, hosted at Rock City, is the only thing you should have planned for this Sunday.
Even if you get down to drum and bass or turned up to tech-house, you won’t have been able to miss the rapid rise of bassline over the past two years. Thriving for years on the underground circuit, the movement has pushed itself into the mainstream in recent times, seeing some of the country’s most renowned festivals putting bassline and drum and bass artists across their line-ups.

Perhaps the most familiar faces from the scene are the boys from CruCast: Skepsis, TS7, Mr Virgo, manager Lazcru, and Nottingham locals Darkzy, Bru-C and Window Kid. Aside from their expected exploits in Ibiza, this summer saw the collective hold down massive slots at both Reading and Leeds and Sundown festivals. However, as the old adage goes, there is no rest for the wicked. Since returning, Darkzy took to Manchester to play a huge show at WHP, while just last week Skepsis played 6 shows over a crazy 4-day period involving huge sets at Lab11 in Birmingham and Warehouse in Leeds. This Sunday, the party will return to Nottingham's Rock City with a fair few big names along for the ride.
'Dabbling in everything from bass to grime, Flava D has become one of the UK’s most renowned producers while simultaneously earning a reputation for delivering engaging and energetic live performances'.
Perhaps the most exciting guest will be Flava D, known for her role in the garage trio TQD, alongside DJ Q and recent Stealth guest Royal-T. Dabbling in everything from bass to grime, Flava D has become one of the UK’s most renowned producers while simultaneously earning a reputation for delivering engaging and energetic live performances. If you’re a fan of Flava D, garage artist Mind Of A Dragon should be up your street. A recent addition to Conducta’s Kiwi Records, Mind Of A Dragon will be looking to show Nottingham why he’s one of the hottest producers in the scene right now.
Tsuki and Subsonic have enjoyed a fruitful year on the CruCast label, releasing a series of well received tracks. While Tsuki has become a frequent collaborator with the CruCast lads –notably with Bru-C – Subsonic is a name perhaps lesser known to the majority. However, with a string of successful releases under his belt, including a collaboration between the two producers with the track Into You, he will be sure to deliver a set of the highest quality.
'Aside from his successful releases, fans of Zero will know he has a clutch of unreleased tracks that are only there to be heard at his live shows'.
Whilst the line-up boasts a wide array of artists covering everything from UKG to drum and bass, my personal one to watch is the bassline prodigy Zero. Bonkers remix Pay For Thrills and Enter The Dragon have been consistently turning heads since release, and he should be sure to draw a good crowd this Sunday. Aside from his successful releases, fans of Zero will know he has a clutch of unreleased tracks that are only there to be heard at his live shows; essentially, be there or be square!
Tickets are still available for the bargain price of £18, so move fast if you want to see some of the scene’s hottest prospects in Rock City - one of the country’s best live venues!
