As a heavyweight festival in the UK, Download fest has met our expectations with yet another year of outstanding headliners. Jake Longhurst discusses their thoughts.
Ahhhh Download, it truly does feel like home. Even the mere mention of the name brings most British metalheads out in a grin. As the spiritual home of all things rock and metal in the UK, Castle Donington and the surrounding area has a long history of amazing live music events and Download Festival 2023 is no exception. As the 20th anniversary of the world-renowned festival, Andy Copping and team have gone hell for leather and created a four-day lineup! With Metallica headlining twice, and Bring Me The Horizon and Slipknot also each headlining a day at the festival, this is music on the biggest of scales. Each band commands legions of fans and can be said to be some of, if not the, biggest bands of their respective eras. Not to mention the fact that the rest of the lineup includes such pedigree as Hatebreed, Architects, Ghost, Electric Callboy, Disturbed, Evanescence, Jinjer and so much more. As the largest metal festival in the UK by some distance, Download does have a bit of a reputation to uphold, but this year's line-up should not only do that but cement its status (again) as one of the premiere festivals in the UK and the world.
