DMA's @ Rough Trade

Rough Trade was already jam packed a full thirty minutes before DMAs were scheduled, people battling for the best views, skirting round podiums and tables to shimmy into the crowd. The excitement was palpable as the came out with their classic Feels Like 37.

The crowd were the loudest I’d ever seen for an aucostic gig, appearing to be in a battle with the band for air space. After warming up the audience, DMAs started to introduce works from their new album - with the already popular Olympia.

Guitarist Johnny Took, as always, was the most animated of the band, taking on the role of the band’s spokesperson and regular chatty man between songs. He explained that this was the first intimate tour they’d done in the UK, and how much they’ve been enjoying the close connection these smaller venues provided.

Some classics had to be omitted from the stripped back set - mainly Lay Down. But with such a reasonably cheap ticket, in Rough Trade with vinyl and CDs ready to be signed by the band, you can’t really complain.

Overall, the night was an excellent taster for the new album, upcoming tour, and summer festival season - leaving the crowd wanting for more.
