Preview: Y Not Festival

Mic writers, Benedict and Jon, preview the Derbyshire-based festival, Y Not. Have a read of their thoughts ahead of the muddy fields and sunburn.

Y Not have delivered a stellar line-up that has got me really excited for this summer’s trip to the Derbyshire Peaks. Early reveals of Royal Blood and Kasabian as headliners gave a very heavy rock feel to the lineup, but they’ve been supplemented by indie legend Paul Weller (lead singer of The Jam) and Thursday headliners Bombay Bicycle Club which give a more varied look to the headline quartet. Weller may not be as well known to the younger clientele of Y Not as the other headliners, but his hit-laden set spanning his 50-year career will be a real treat. DMAs and The Wombats are both very strong sub-headliners - with DMAs fourth album ‘How Many Dreams?’ set for release this spring. James is the other sub-headliner, and they will surely delight the older sections of the crowd with their 90s classics.

Everything Everything, beabadoobee and The Charlatans are also big names on the lineup, whilst the lower part of the line-up is packed with the rising stars of indie such as Sprints, Wunderhorse and Red Rum Club. With a second wave of artists still to come, it’s shaping up to be a fantastic weekend of music!
