A short and sweet one this week, so savour the taste! Check out new releases from P!nk, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes and nothing, nowhere.
Never Gonna Not Dance Again – P!nk
I entered an era of obsessing over pink clothes and makeup during the summer. I almost think it was a premature sign that I was simultaneously entering my P!nk era. Never Gonna Not Dance Again has all the ingredients of an iconic pop anthem: it’s a song, born much too late, but in another world would have been written all over the storyboards of High School Musical or Glee. But more than that, it’s a love song to false conceptions of youth and a request for everybody to indulge in what they enjoy. She sings “I don’t care if I belong”, perfectly summarising how hobbies and habits seem to have expiry dates but what truly matters is that you live life according to what serves you, despite the looks and glares. It’s an invitation for everyone to hit the dancefloor at your cousin’s wedding or take up that dance class you also peered through the window at. Roxann Yus
Parasite – Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes
Frank Carter and The Rattlesnakes have released a new energetic single called Parasite. The track follows the horrors of the modern-day dating pool and the fine balance between love and toxicity. Full of punk anger and angst the track follows a gritty-attitude and dark sentiment that was created from a brutal and eye-opening trip to the seaside, where both Frank and Dean, the band’s guitarist, listened in on the horror stories of their friend’s dating lives. Frank recalls that Parasite was birthed from these stories at around 3 am with the track focusing particularly on the life of a young man, his behaviour and the ache it has on his girlfriend. The track is full of raw emotion and pent-up angst and energy through a fusion of hardcore punk grit with the melodic sensibilities of pop. The sound of the track is synonymous with the sound of The Rattlesnakes, leaning into the melodic focus that the band has been working on over the last couple of albums. Kerenza Hudson
CYAN1DE – nothing, nowhere ft. Pete Wentz
nothing, nowhere continues to build hype for his upcoming fifth album with latest single CYAN1DE featuring Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz. Continuing his latest musical direction, CYAN1DE starts with an emo rap backing track reminiscent of 2017’s Reaper before transitioning into an anthemic rock chorus. Pete Wentz provides a spoken word interlude which could be straight out of a 2000s Fall Out Boy record before dusting off his screaming abilities in the breakdown. The angst you would expect from a nothing, nowhere track is here in spades with lines like “My insecurities and me, I was so numb, my brain is the only thing I couldn’t outrun” so if the mid-semester blues are hitting you hard this is definitely the track for you. If you need even more catharsis then nothing, nowhere is playing The Bodega in Nottingham on the 14th of November, edgy kids rejoice! Sam Christelow
